The Story of Stewart Drummond Studios

Stewart Drummond Studios is a wholesale design resource centre, which embodies family endeavors as well as long term dedication to an industry we love. Our company is family owned and is devoted to servicing its clients in the interior decorating and design industry. Its evolution has been both exciting and diverse.

Audrey and Martin Martin Liepins, a Latvian born immigrant, formed Martin's Drapery Installations Ltd. with his wife, Audrey Liepins, in the 1960's. Their company supplied hardware and installation services to a large number of retail stores in the Calgary area as well as independent designers. Martin's personal enjoyment of the industry made a significant impact on those with whom he worked. We still enjoy hearing stories about the many relationships formed during those early years.

In the early 1980's the only child of Martin and Audrey, Arlene Liepins, and her husband, David Fordyce, became actively involved in the company taking over its management in 1989 after Martin passed away. Not only did the company continue to provide drapery hardware and installation services, but it expanded to reflect our dream - to develop a full service resource centre to members of the design industry. The company was soon supplying fabric lines, hard window coverings, custom designed furniture products, as well as upholstery services and in- house manufacturing.

Audrey and Martin As the services of our company quickly evolved, so did its name. Stewart Drummond Studios became the operational name of Martin's Drapery and, once again, it reflected on the importance of family in achieving success. Stewart is the family name of Arlene's maternal grandmother, while Drummond is the family name of David's paternal grandmother. We have been blessed with family members exhibiting tenacity, strength and determination. These qualities could not be more evident than in Audrey Liepins, who is still in the studio every day assisting designers with their fabric selection and maintaining her involvement with the company.

Stewart Drummond Studios enjoys a wonderful client base composed of talented, energized and delightful people who work within the design community in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and parts of Northern Canada. The customers of Stewart Drummond Studios are serviced by our dedicated and knowledgeable employees, most of whom have been with our company for many years. We are pleased to assist decorators, designers, architects, builders and workrooms alike.
